Customization, Design and Expandability
Are Inspiration Homes expandable?
Absolutely. We make expansion simple. We keep all blueprints, specs and engineering files on record, and our long-term vendor relationships make it easy to match materials—even years later.
Can you customize a modular home?
Yes. You can customize your home with floor plan changes, upgraded finishes, cabinetry, smart technology, energy-efficient features and exterior design options. Our team and your builder will help you create a layout that fits your lifestyle and budget.
Can your homes be built so garages and decks can be added?
Yes. We can structurally prepare your home at the factory for future additions like garages, decks, porches and more.
Can a custom modular home be two stories?
Yes. Modular construction supports full two-story layouts with open floor plans, staircases and flexible configurations.
Codes, Inspections and Construction Standards
Are precision-built (modular) homes subject to the same building codes as site-built homes?
Yes. Modular homes follow the same state and local building codes as site-built homes. We build to the highest level of the code—or higher.
Are precision-built homes inspected the same way as site-built homes?
They’re actually inspected more.
- All plans are reviewed by a third-party agency before construction begins.
- Each phase of construction is inspected and signed off by our in-house inspector.
- Third-party inspectors also review the home on behalf of state and local authorities.
A home cannot move down the production line until each step is approved.
Do modular homes use the same materials as site-built homes?
Yes—often more. Modular homes use the same framing, insulation, drywall, roofing and finishes as site-built homes. Because modules must withstand transportation and craning, many areas are built stronger than site-built structures.
Build Timeline, Budget and Delivery
How fast can I build an Inspiration Home?
Once construction begins inside our facility, most homes are ready to ship in 2–3 weeks. Your builder handles all on-site completion.
How long does it take to build a custom modular home?
Most custom modular homes take 3–6 months from start to finish, including design, permitting, factory construction, site prep, delivery and final finishing.
How does Wisconsin Homes keep the home on budget?
Once your blueprint is finalized, we create a precise bill of materials. Because every component is known in advance, we can give you an exact factory-built price. If material prices increase afterward, your quoted price does not change.
How is Wisconsin Homes able to deliver homes on time?
We don’t start building your home until all materials are on-site. This eliminates delays and allows your home to move smoothly through each production phase. Because each phase is timed and controlled, we can confidently predict completion and delivery dates.
Foundations, Durability and Home Setup
What kinds of foundations can your homes be placed on?
Our homes can be set on full basements, crawl spaces or other permanent foundations. We coordinate with your builder to ensure a perfect fit during installation.
Can factory-built homes be placed on basements?
Yes. Modular homes are specifically engineered to sit on permanent foundations, including basements.
Will my modular home be complete when it arrives?
Your home will arrive 80–90% complete. Most interior work is finished in the factory, while your builder completes final touches like utility hookups, seam finishing, porches, garages and inspections.
How durable are custom modular homes?
Modular homes meet the same codes as site-built homes and often exceed them in structural strength because they must withstand transportation and crane placement. Many customers find modular homes feel even more solid over time.
How long do custom modular homes last?
With proper maintenance, modular homes can last 50–100+ years, similar to high-quality site-built homes.
Modular vs. Manufactured vs. Site-Built
What is the difference between a manufactured home and a modular home?
The biggest difference is the building code.
- Modular homes are built to local/state building codes—the same as site-built homes. They are placed on permanent foundations and can appreciate in value.
- Manufactured homes are built to the federal HUD Code, on a permanent steel chassis, and may face zoning or financing limitations.
Modular homes generally offer more customization, higher long-term value and more flexibility in placement.
How is a factory-built home different from a site-built home?
The difference is where construction happens. Factory-built homes are constructed indoors, protecting materials from weather and ensuring consistent quality. Site-built homes are built outdoors and can face delays or material exposure.
Investment, Value and Market Considerations
Do custom modular homes appreciate in value?
Yes. Modular homes on permanent foundations appreciate similarly to site-built homes and follow local real estate trends.
Are modular homes a good investment?
Yes. They offer strong long-term value, energy efficiency, and quality construction—often with lower initial costs and faster timelines.
How does the value of a modular home compare to a stick-built home?
Comparable. When placed on owned land and built to local codes, modular homes maintain and appreciate similarly to site-built homes.
Energy Efficiency and Features
How do factory-built homes compare in energy efficiency?
Factory-built homes often outperform site-built homes thanks to precision engineering, tight seals, and controlled indoor assembly. Many include energy-efficient windows, insulation and systems that meet or exceed modern standards.
What features can I get in a modular home?
You can choose from high-end features such as custom cabinetry, hardwood flooring, solid-surface countertops, smart home integrations, upgraded insulation, energy-efficient appliances, premium windows and more.
